52 in 52 Update

Now that we have reached the halfway point of the year I figured it was a good of time as any to see where I stood on my 52 in 52 commitment. If you don't know what 52 in 52 is, read up on it here.

These are in no particular order since I tend to read multiple books at a time.

1. Spirit Healing by Mary Dean Atwood
2. Shamanism: A Beginner's Guide by Dolfyn
3. Spirit Song by Mary Summer Rain
4. Indigo Children by Lee Carroll
5. How to Meet and Work with Spirit Guides by Ted Andrews
6. Spirit Guides by Iris Belhays
7. Spiritual Journeys along the Yellow Brick Road by Darren John Main
8. The Wisdom of Oz by Gita Dorothy Morena
9. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L Frank Baum
10. The Zen of Oz by Joey Green
11. Crystal Enlightenment by Katrina Raphaell
12. The Care and Feeding of Indigo Children by Doreen Virtue
13. Crystal Healing by Phyllis Galde
14. The Crystal Children by Doreen Virtue
15. Stone Power by Dorothee Mella
16. Animal Speak by Ted Andrews
17. Spirits of the Earth by Bobby Lake-Thom
18. Totems by Brad Steiger
19. The Dancing Healers by Carl A Hammerslag
20. Shamanic Journeying by Sandra Ingerman
21. Mother Earth Spirituality by Ed McGaa
22. The Complete Book of Tarot Spreads by Evelin Burger
23. The Heart of Healing by IONS
24. Sacred Drumming by Steve Ash
25. Ceremonial Circle by Sedonia Cahill

The Books I am in the process of reading:

26. Urban Shaman by Serge Kahili King
27. The New Complete Joy of Home Brewing by Charlie Papazian
28. The Chakra Workbook by Anna Voigt
29. The Complete Meadmaker by Ken Schramm
30. The Way of the Shaman by Michael Harner (not sure I should count this one since I have read this book 5 or 6 times already!)
31. Tasting Beer by Randy Mosher

On the TBRN pile:

The Shamanic Way of the Bee by Simon Buxton
In the Shadow of the Shaman by Amber Wolfe
Phoenix Rising by Mary Summer Rain
By Oak, Ash and Thorn by DJ Conway

And here I thought I was behind in my reading. Who knew??

52 in 52 - Book 7

Spiritual Journeys along the Yellow Brick Road by Darren John Main

This is one of a few books on this topic I am reading for research for a service I am leading at the end of May.

Very interesting book. I can't wait to watch the movie again now that I have read this.

52 in 52 - Book 6

Spirit Guides by Iris Belhayes

I just recommended this book and now I am taking it back. I read this book years ago and obviously remembered it being better than it really is. The symbolism she chooses of everything in our world being a game is really hard to read through. So, never mind, don't read Iris Belhayes. LOL She does put an interesting twist on the philosophy I subscribe to but the way she explained it was down right odd and off putting.

52 in 52 - Book 5

How to: Meet and Work with Spirit Guides by Ted Andrews

A friend gave me this book and I did not like this book at all. Everything seemed sugar coated.

52 in 52 - Book 4

The Indigo Children: The New Kids Have Arrived by Lee Carroll

It has been suggested to me the Kyllian is a Crystal Child. But the more I read on Crystal Children the less I am convinced. I still haven't read that book (anyone have it??) but I did get The Indigo Children off of Paperback Swap. It sounds a lot like Kyllian. Regardless if you believe in Indigo and Crystal children, there was a lot of practical peaceful parenting advice in this book.

52 in 52 - Book 3

Spirit Song: The Introduction of No-Eyes by Mary Summer Rain

This is the first in a three part series. An interesting mix of shamanism and metaphysics. It is written as non-fiction but has a fiction like quality to it because of the imagery used. I am looking forward to the next two books in the series but I have something new on the list that is pulling at my attention. So they will wait for a bit.

52 in 52 - Book 2

Shamanism: A Beginner's Guide by Dolfyn

I don't know why I have never read this book. I guess it is more of a booklet but still. It is a great primer to Shamanism. Lots of very basic information and practical knowledge. I probably should have read it BEFORE I read the other dozen or so books I have read on shamanism in the last 3 years.

It was given to me in a stack of books from a friend. I quickly passed it on to someone at church. I never intended for it to be given back to me but it found it's way back today and I have read it cover to cover already. I am not sure I learned anything new from it but it was definitely nice to be reminded of the basics! It is always good to return to the beginning every once in a while.

52 in 52 - Book 1

Spirit Healing: Native American Magic & Medicine by Mary Dean Atwood

Other than the section on Vision Quests, I found this book to be a bit New Agey. I typically don't mind New Age reading but this was not what I had in mind when choosing this book. The fictional story that was woven through the book was about the only thing the kept my interest.

52 Books in 52 Weeks

Since one of my goals is to read more this year I am going to try to keep up with the 52 Books in 52 Weeks challenge. This will be quite a challenge indeed. Especially since I don't enjoy fluff books. Some of the books on my list for this year are re-reads but since it has been years since reading them I will count them.

I will start off the challenge with a small book!!

Spirit Healing: Native American Magic & Medicine by Mary Dean Atwood

Then I will begin a 4 book series by Mary Summer Rain.

Phoenix Rising
Spirit Song
Phantoms A-foot
Dreamwalker

After that, I have a list of books on the way from PaperbackSwap and a shelf of books waiting to be read!!
